Underarm whitening cream in Pakistan: what actually fades dark underarms
Dark underarms are melanin made in response to repeated irritation — a blunt razor, wax, alcohol-based deodorant, friction from tight sleeves — not dirt and not a hygiene failure. Alpha arbutin 2% with niacinamide 5% fades them over eight to twelve weeks, but only once the irritation stops. Bleach, phitkari and lemon are themselves irritants and make the problem worse.
We do not make a dedicated underarm cream. Hydra Glow Cream is a 50 ml face cream with alpha arbutin 2% and niacinamide 5% — the same actives an underarm cream would carry, used at night on a small area.

Shaving with a blunt blade, waxing, alcohol-heavy deodorants, friction from tight sleeves and, in some people, insulin resistance. Each of the first four is repeated irritation, and irritated skin in Fitzpatrick IV-V types responds by making pigment. The hair follicle stubble visible under the surface also reads as darkness even where there is no pigment at all.
Two things follow from that. First, a cream applied on top of continued daily shaving is working against a cause that renews every morning. Second, part of what people are looking at is not pigment: trimming instead of shaving to the root, or laser, changes the appearance of an underarm immediately in a way no brightening active can.
What to change before you buy anything
Switch to a fresh blade or an electric trimmer, shave at night rather than before applying anything active, leave a full day between hair removal and any cream, pick a deodorant without alcohol, and stop using phitkari (alum), lemon and baking soda. Those three are the most common home remedies here and all three irritate.
Swipe the table sideways to see every column.
| Remedy | What happens |
|---|---|
| Phitkari / alum | Astringent and drying; irritation darkens pigment over time |
| Lemon juice | Low pH plus photosensitivity — a known cause of worse pigmentation |
| Baking soda | Strongly alkaline; strips the barrier and inflames |
| Salon bleach | Lightens hair, irritates skin, no effect on melanin |
| Steroid mix creams | Fast lightening, then rebound darkening and thinned skin |
The actives that work, and how to use them here
Alpha arbutin 2% interrupts pigment production and is the main tool. Niacinamide 5-10% limits pigment transfer and is gentle enough for daily use on thin skin. Retinol 0.3% speeds turnover but is the one to be careful with on underarm skin: never on the night you shave, never in pregnancy.
Practically: a pea-sized amount of Hydra Glow Cream per underarm at night, three nights a week to start, building to five if there is no stinging. On the nights you shave or wax, use the Hydrating Moisturiser instead and nothing else. If you want to avoid retinol altogether — pregnancy, breastfeeding, or reactive skin — use Hydra Glow Serum's niacinamide 10% nightly instead and accept a slower result.
Timeline, and when to stop expecting more
Two to four weeks for the skin to feel smoother and less irritated. Four to six weeks before any lightening is visible. Eight to twelve weeks for the result most people are after. Underarm skin is thin but heavily used, and the cause keeps returning, so this is genuinely slower than facial pigmentation.
Photograph both underarms in daylight on day one, arms in the same position, no flash. Compare at week eight, not before. If twelve weeks of consistent use with a fresh blade and an alcohol-free deodorant has changed nothing, the pigment may not be pigment — a velvety, thickened patch is worth a doctor's opinion rather than another cream.
