Moisturizer price in Pakistan: what to pay and what you are paying for
Moisturisers in Pakistan run from about Rs. 400 for a basic drugstore cream to Rs. 6,000 and beyond for imported brands. Locally formulated moisturisers with stated actives and barrier lipids sit between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,500. Above that tier you are mostly paying import duty, shipping and brand. The price tiers, and what each one buys
Rs. 400 to Rs. 900 buys a basic occlusive cream that stops water leaving your skin and nothing more. Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,500 buys stated actives, ceramides or a barrier complex, and a texture designed for a specific skin type. Rs. 3,000 and above is usually the same formula plus import cost.
The first jump is worth making for most people. A basic cream is genuinely fine as a seal, but it does not contain niacinamide at a working percentage, it rarely lists ceramides, and its texture is usually a single compromise for all skin types. The second jump is worth making far less often than the shelf suggests.
Cost per day beats sticker price
A 120 ml moisturiser used twice daily lasts roughly three to four months. At Rs. 1,249 that is about Rs. 11 a day. A 50 ml night cream used two to three nights a week lasts longer than its size implies. Compare millilitres and frequency, not price tags.
Size is where the market hides price. A 30 ml cream at Rs. 900 looks cheaper than a 120 ml one at Rs. 1,249 and costs roughly three times as much per use. Night creams with retinol are the exception in the other direction — a 50 ml jar used three nights a week can outlast a daily moisturiser twice its volume.
What actually drives a moisturiser's cost
Barrier lipids like ceramides are genuinely expensive. Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid are not. Emulsion stability, preservative systems and testing cost real money. Packaging, marketing and import duty cost the most and do the least for your skin.
Ceramides are the honest reason a moisturiser costs more, because they are expensive to source and difficult to keep stable in an emulsion. If a product costs Rs. 3,000 and lists no lipid complex, no stated percentages and an ingredient list that starts with water, mineral oil and fragrance, the price is not in the formula.
Why imported moisturisers cost two to three times more here
Import duty, sales tax, freight, distributor margin and rupee depreciation stack on top of the original price. A cream that sells for the equivalent of Rs. 1,800 abroad lands here at Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5,000 without a single change to the formula.
That gap is the entire reason locally formulated skincare became competitive in this market. It is not a claim that local is better — it is that the same money buys a great deal more formula when it is not paying to cross a border twice.
The cheapest listing is usually the worst buy
A price well below every other seller normally means grey stock, a batch close to or past expiry, or a counterfeit. Emulsions degrade — a separated or oxidised cream will not perform regardless of what the label says.
Check for a batch number, a manufacture or expiry date, a full INCI list and a period-after-opening symbol. Buying from the brand or an authorised stockist costs a little more and removes the question entirely. This applies more to moisturisers than to cleansers, because a cream stays on your face for hours.
