Glycolic acid face wash in Pakistan: what twenty seconds of acid buys
A glycolic face wash is on your skin for the length of a wash and then gone. That is a fraction of the exposure a leave-on serum gives, and anyone telling you it does the same job is selling something. What it does do is give you surface brightness and smoother texture with almost none of the irritation that makes people abandon acids in week two — which, over three months, is often the better trade.
Elluvi's glycolic acid is in a face wash at 5%, rinsed off after twenty seconds, rather than a leave-on serum. This page is about why that format choice is the right one for most people here, and who it is too gentle for.

Glycolic acid works in proportion to strength, pH and how long it sits on skin. A serum has hours; a wash has twenty seconds. So a 5% wash is not a weaker 5% serum — it is a different product that trades most of the result for most of the irritation.
| Format | Contact time | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Face wash 5% | 10-30 seconds, rinsed | Daily use, beginners, reactive skin, humid climates |
| Toner 5-7% | Left on, evening | Skin already tolerant of acids |
| Serum 8-10% | Left on, overnight | Experienced users, two or three nights a week |
| Peel 20-30% | Minutes, supervised | Clinic only |
What a glycolic wash realistically changes
Surface dullness and rough texture, within two to four weeks. It helps keep pores clear and makes the rest of a routine absorb more evenly. It does not meaningfully move pigmentation, acne scarring or deep lines, and any wash claiming it does is describing a serum's job.
Why a rinse-off acid suits Pakistan specifically
Heat and humidity already make skin more reactive, and most people here are also using sun exposure they cannot avoid. A leave-on acid in that combination is how you end up with a stinging, shiny, over-exfoliated face by week three. A wash gives you a daily acid step you can keep through a Lahore summer.
The corollary is that it is genuinely too gentle for some people. If you have used acids for a year, tolerate them well, and want real texture change, buy a leave-on product and do not let anyone tell you a cleanser replaces it.
How to use one without overdoing it
Once daily, in the evening, twenty seconds of contact and then rinse. Not twice a day, not with a scrub, and not on the same evening you start a retinol. Sunscreen the next morning is not optional — glycolic acid increases sun sensitivity, and in Pakistan that matters more than the exfoliation does.
We do not sell a sunscreen. Buy any SPF 50 you will actually reapply. A glycolic routine without it is a net loss.
What Elluvi uses
Brightening Face Wash is glycolic acid at a stated 5% with niacinamide, at Rs. 849. The percentage is printed because the percentage is the only thing that lets you compare two bottles, and most of what is sold here prints nothing.
