Alpha arbutin cream in Pakistan: 2%, and what it does over twelve weeks
Alpha arbutin slows tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces melanin, which makes it a pigmentation active you can use indefinitely rather than in a supervised course. It is slow — eight to twelve weeks before anything is visible — and that is the trade for being able to keep going. Most of what is sold in Pakistan does not print a percentage, which makes the stated ones worth finding.

Alpha arbutin is water-soluble and works fine in either. The practical difference is that a night cream carries the moisturiser step with it, and a pigmentation routine people keep for three months is one with fewer steps in it. A serum makes sense if you already have a moisturiser you like.
What 2% means, and why the number is missing so often
Two per cent is the strength most of the published work uses, and above roughly that point there is no evidence of more benefit. A product that does not state its percentage could be at 0.1%, which costs almost nothing and does almost nothing. The absence of a number is the information.
This is the same pattern as retinol here: a widely recognised active name printed large, with no dose anywhere on the packaging. It is not illegal and it is not a scandal — it is just not something you can compare, and comparison is the only thing that protects a buyer.
The timeline, honestly
Nothing for six weeks. A visible difference in scattered dark spots between eight and twelve weeks. Melasma takes longer and comes back — it is a condition you manage rather than cure. Judge at twelve weeks with photographs in the same light, not at three weeks in a different mirror.

It does not work without sunscreen
UV is what drives the pigment. An arbutin cream used at night without SPF the next morning is slowing production at one end while sun accelerates it at the other. This is the single most common reason people conclude the product failed. We do not sell a sunscreen; buy any SPF 50 you will actually reapply.
