Pigmentation meaning in Urdu

Pigmentation in Urdu is رنگت (rangat) — the natural colour of skin, produced by a pigment called melanin (میلانن). Everybody has pigmentation; it is not a condition. When a doctor, a label or an advertisement in Pakistan says “pigmentation”, they almost always mean hyperpigmentation (زیادہ رنگت) — patches that have gone darker than the skin around them. Those are two different words and only the second one is a problem.

This page is a definition, not a shop. The products shown carry the actives with evidence behind them for dark patches — alpha arbutin, niacinamide and vitamin C — and the pigmentation guide linked below compares them against everything else sold for it here, at stated percentages where a brand states them.

The short answer

Pigmentation = رنگت (rangat). Pigment = روغن or رنگ دینے والا مادہ. Pigmented = رنگت والا. Skin pigmentation = جلد کی رنگت. Hyperpigmentation — the one people mean when they are worried — is زیادہ رنگت, or in plain speech داغ دھبے (daagh dhabbay) and جھائیاں (jhaiyan).

The confusion is built into the English. "Pigmentation" on its own is neutral and describes everyone's skin. Pakistani advertising uses it as though it were a disease, because "anti-pigmentation cream" sells better than "cream for slightly darker patches". If you have been told you have pigmentation, the useful question to ask back is: which kind, and is it deeper or surface?

What pigmented means

Pigmented (رنگت والا) simply means something contains pigment. A pigmented skin lesion is a spot that has colour in it. A pigmented moisturiser is a tinted one. In a lab report, pigmented can refer to bile pigments and has nothing to do with skin at all.

If you have arrived at this page from a medical report rather than a cosmetics label, that last point is the one that matters: serum or bile pigment readings on a liver panel are a different subject entirely, and nothing on this page applies to them. Ask the doctor who ordered the test.

The kinds of hyperpigmentation, and why the difference matters

Dark patches are not one thing. Melasma is hormonal and symmetrical, sun spots are scattered and cumulative, and post-inflammatory marks sit exactly where a pimple or a cut healed. They respond to treatment at very different speeds, and one of them recurs no matter what you do.

That last row is the one worth carrying away. A mark is flat and it is a colour problem; a scar is a change in the shape of the skin and no cream reaches it. If you can feel a dip with a fingertip, creams are the wrong tool and a dermatologist doing needling or resurfacing is the right one.

Hyperpigmentation meaning in Urdu

Hyperpigmentation is زیادہ رنگت (ziyada rangat) — literally excess colouring. The prefix hyper- means too much, so the word describes skin that has produced more melanin in one area than in the skin around it. In everyday Urdu it is simply داغ دھبے or جھائیاں, depending on which kind you have.

If a dermatologist has written hyperpigmentation rather than pigmentation, they are being precise rather than describing something more serious — pigmentation alone would mean ordinary skin colour, which is not a diagnosis. The opposite word, hypopigmentation (کم رنگت), means patches that have lost colour, which is a different condition entirely and is not treated with anything on this page.

What makes pigmentation worse in Pakistan

Ultraviolet light, visible light and heat all darken existing patches, and so does inflammation of any kind — scrubbing, harsh acids, bleaching, threading and picking at spots. The strongest single measure against pigmentation is not a cream, it is daily broad-spectrum SPF 50.

Elluvi does not sell sunscreen. That is a gap in our catalogue and not a reason to skip it: without sun protection, every active discussed below is working against something that undoes it faster than it can act. Buy one from anyone.

What actually lightens dark patches

Alpha arbutin, niacinamide, azelaic acid, vitamin C and a retinoid all have real evidence for hyperpigmentation, used consistently over eight to twelve weeks. Hydroquinone works fastest and is a supervised, short-course prescription drug rather than a shelf item.

What does not work: lemon juice, physical scrubs, and the unlabelled mix creams sold in Pakistani markets that combine a steroid, hydroquinone and a retinoid. Those lighten quickly, then thin the skin, spread visible vessels and rebound darker than the starting point. If a cream has no printed ingredient list, no batch number and no manufacturer, it does not go on your face.
