Salicylic acid vs glycolic acid in Pakistan: they solve different problems
Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it travels into a pore and clears it from the inside. Glycolic acid is water-soluble and works across the surface, loosening dead cells. That single difference decides almost everything: salicylic for acne, blackheads and congestion; glycolic for dullness, rough texture and uneven tone. Choosing by strength instead of by solubility is how people end up using the wrong one for six months.
Elluvi makes a glycolic acid face wash and no salicylic product. This page says where salicylic is the better choice, which for most acne is where it is.

Salicylic acid is a BHA, oil-soluble, and works inside the pore. Glycolic is an AHA, water-soluble, and works on the surface. For active acne and blackheads, salicylic. For dullness and texture, glycolic. For oily skin with both problems, salicylic first, glycolic later.
| Salicylic acid (BHA) | Glycolic acid (AHA) | |
|---|---|---|
| Solubility | Oil-soluble — enters the pore | Water-soluble — surface only |
| Typical strength | 0.5-2% | 5-10% at home |
| Best for | Acne, blackheads, congestion | Dullness, texture, uneven tone |
| Molecule size | Larger, slower to penetrate | Smallest AHA, penetrates fast |
| Irritation | Lower; anti-inflammatory | Higher, especially leave-on |
| Sun sensitivity | Mild increase | Marked increase — SPF required |
| Pregnancy | Avoid leave-on; wash generally fine | Generally considered fine |
If you only have one problem, this is the answer
Blackheads on the nose, whiteheads, oily congestion, active acne: salicylic acid. Dull, rough, tired-looking skin with no active breakouts: glycolic acid. Post-acne marks that are flat and brown: neither — that is a pigmentation job for niacinamide, arbutin or vitamin C.
Can you use both?
Yes, but not in the same routine step and not in the same week you start either. The standard arrangement is a salicylic product in the morning or on alternate evenings and a glycolic one on the others. Using both every day is how skin ends up stripped, shiny and stinging.
What we sell, and what we do not
Elluvi makes a glycolic acid face wash at a stated 5% and no salicylic product at all. If acne is your main problem, a salicylic cleanser or serum is the better first buy and you should get one — this page is not going to pretend otherwise.
Where our face wash does fit an acne routine is alongside a salicylic product rather than instead of it, and afterwards: once breakouts settle, what is usually left is texture and marks, which is glycolic's job rather than salicylic's.
