Best cream for dry skin in Pakistan: read the lipids, not the claims
Dry skin has too little of the lipid mortar that holds water in, which is why adding water alone feels good for an hour and changes nothing by evening. A cream worth buying for dry skin contains three things: a humectant to attract water, a lipid to replace what is missing, and an occlusive to slow evaporation. This page explains how to spot all three on a label, and how to layer for skin that is dry enough that one cream is not enough.

A humectant such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid to draw water in. A lipid such as ceramides, cholesterol or squalane to replace what the barrier is missing. An occlusive such as petrolatum, dimethicone or shea butter to slow water leaving.
Most disappointing products have one of the three. A hyaluronic acid gel has the humectant and nothing else, which is why it feels excellent on application and tight by afternoon. A plain petrolatum ointment has the occlusive and nothing else, which works but is unpleasant on a face.
Ceramides are the ingredient that justifies a higher price
Ceramides NP and EOP are barrier lipids that dry skin is genuinely short of. They are expensive to source and hard to keep stable in an emulsion, which is the honest reason some creams cost more than others.
If a cream costs Rs. 3,000 and lists no lipid complex, no stated percentages and an ingredient list beginning with water, mineral oil and fragrance, the price is in the packaging and the import chain rather than the formula.
Cream, lotion, balm and ointment
A lotion is mostly water and suits mild dryness. A cream has a higher oil phase and suits ordinary dry skin. A balm or ointment is largely occlusive and is for cracked skin, lips and hands rather than routine facial use.
Choosing too heavy a format is a real cost, not just a comfort issue — a very occlusive cream on a face that only needed a lotion can trap sweat and congest pores, particularly on combination skin whose cheeks are dry and T-zone is not.
How to layer for very dry skin
Serum on damp skin, cream immediately after, and a second layer of the same cream before bed. Layering the product you already own is more effective than buying a heavier one.
The one-minute rule matters most here. Applied within a minute of washing, a humectant pulls from the water still on the surface. Applied to a dry face in dry indoor air, it pulls from your skin instead.
Fragrance, alcohol and the ingredients to avoid
Denatured alcohol high in the list, added fragrance, essential oils and menthol are the usual irritants on dry, compromised skin. None is universally harmful; all are unnecessary risk when the barrier is already leaking.
Note that "alcohol" in an ingredient list is not always the drying kind — cetyl, stearyl and cetearyl alcohol are fatty alcohols and are perfectly fine. It is alcohol denat. and isopropyl alcohol near the top of the list that matter.
The habits that undo a good cream
Hot showers, a stripping face wash, hard water, low indoor humidity, and washing the face more than twice a day. Any one of these will outpace a good moisturiser.
Fix the cleanser before upgrading the cream. If skin feels tight after washing, the wash is removing lipids faster than the cream can replace them and no amount of ceramide will keep up.

When it is not dryness
Flaking with itching, redness, scaly patches at the eyebrows and hairline, or cracks that weep is more likely eczema or seborrhoeic dermatitis. Those need a doctor, and a cosmetic cream will not resolve them.
Apply a small amount to a discreet area of the jawline once daily for 2–3 days. Stop if persistent redness, itching or irritation occurs.
